A little history
Newton Abbot Orchestra has been in existence for at least 50 years, having begun life as the Linden Orchestral Players. Rosina Wall, a daughter of Alfred Wall, violinist and composer, established the orchestra and was its first conductor. Later, her sister, Dulcie Sadler, took the baton and the name was changed to Newton Abbot Orchestra. Marion Room then conducted the orchestra for about 10 years until 1994. Since then, the orchestra has had several conductors until 2006 when Rob Young became musical director.

The repertoire always included classical overtures and symphonies as well as other lighter music but has become more adventurous.
The orchestra has played various concertos with different soloists as well as accompanying singers in concert, including The Plymouth Military Wives Choir.
We rehearse during term time at 7pm for 7.30pm in the hall at the Courtenay Centre, Kingsteignton Road, Newton Abbot TQ12 2QA and usually perform three concerts a year, often at the end of each term.
The orchestra has a management Committee which includes a Chairman, Treasurer, Committee Secretary, Membership Secretary and Librarian.
The Musical Director and Leader are ex-officio members of the Committee.
The orchestra is an unincorporated association but has a Constitution which sets out the conduct expected of members and details about membership and governance among other things, as well as a Privacy Notice.
